The Original De Fosto

 Winston Scarborough

EDUCATION: Tacarigua Orphanage
CAREER: Abandoned as a baby with no name, De Fosto was found somewhere in Belmont, Port-of-Spain, by a woman from Tobago by the name of Beatrice Clark. She took him to the Tacarigua Orphanage where the surname “Scarborough,” borrowed from the capital of Tobago, was given to him. His musical ability was recognized very early in his life and it was nurtured by the orphanage where, eventually, he would learn to read and score music. He made his professional singing debut in 1976 with “Chicks Come Out to Play.” For the most part, his calypsoes were written for easy adaptation by steelbands. With his music-writing skill, he went on to score hundreds of songs for other singers. De Fosto’s “Pan in A Rage” was played by the 1996 steelband Panorama winners, Renegades. He placed 2nd in the Calypso Crown competition twice with “Pan Forevermore” and “One More Kitchener,” in 2000, and “Police Money” in 2007. He placed 3rd in the Calypso Crown competition in 2010 with “In A Palace State of Mind.” In 2002 and 2007, the Trinidad All Stars Steelband won the Panorama competition with his calypsoes “Firestorm” and “Pan Lamentation,” respectively. Exodus Steelband won the Panorama in 2003 and 2004 with his calypsoes “Pandora” and “War 2004,” respectively. He made the Calypso Monarch Final in 2015. His other calypsoes include:
1976 – Kung Fu

2002 – The Cries of Africa; De Mecca
